ARTIFACT DISPLAY SERVICES

Since 2014, Brigid Mountmaking has delivered the highest level of craftsmanship, object safety, and effective project organization. Our three founding members are still the backbone of our projects: measuring, fabricating, and fitting our mounts.

We take our responsibility for object safety seriously. We provide our clients with material lists which we developed with conservators and refined over the years. Through our network of clients and connection with the International Mountmakers Forum, we keep current to changing standards. We are often the bridge between the museum and the fabrication shop to communicate artifact needs as we work together to build a safe object environment.

Structural steel mounts

Weld integrity is essential. A welded joint can appear effective on the surface but lack the penetration and proper execution necessary to withstand the force of a load over time. We have experience outside the museum field in structural steel fabrication with x-rayed and stress tested welds.

Book cradles and flat document supports

We consult with museum staff on safe display openings and angles, then design acrylic cradles that fully support the spine, cover, and textblock. Our flat document mounts demonstrate consistency of angle and parallelism when grouped.

Textile and body forms

Our textile mounts provide even and stress-free support. From oversized slant boards to articulated forms, we are adept at providing the appropriate mount to accommodate an object’s needs. Angle of display, cushioning and nap of underlying mount fabric, and choices of attachment methods all vary depending on the condition and character of an artifact.

Clamping mounts

Seismic-mitigating, traveling, and theft-deterring mounts require careful design and planning so that the mount itself doesn’t damage the object. We have mounted open exhibits, three traveling seismic exhibits, and touchable object displays.
